Rock Climbing.....Ceramics.....Photography.....Woodshop.....and more!!!!!!!

The Extreme Team activities will cater to our more "mature" campers (8-14 years old) by continuing to offer the core classes they have always loved: Art, drama, pony camp, baking, dance, etc. To this core curriculum the children also have an opportunity to choose from ceramics, photography, computer animation, trail riding, etc. (refer to the activities page for a complete list).

Due to the huge success of our elective system in this program, we are happy to continue allowing campers to tailor their activities to each individuals' special interest. First thing in the morning, four days a week, they will select that day's' classes.

To make the Extreme Team even more exciting, the Water Sports option is available for an additional fee (see tuition chart) and is only limited to 20 campers per day, so register early to be a part of this unique program!!!

ABOUT OUR WATERSPORTS OPTION
Each camper who adds the water sports component will have an opportunity to participate in the full range of activities: Surfing, tubing, wake boarding, skim boarding, water skiing, boogie boarding and kite surfing. On rainy days we will utilize the large, air conditioned gymnasium where we will practice balance, strength-training techniques, discuss theory, and watch instructional videos. For any camper not quite ready to try these sports, we will offer tubing and boogie boarding to help them acclimate at their own pace.

In the water sports option, our goal is simple: to have fun!! This aspect of the program will implement a well-rounded approach to each sport by incorporating technique, theory, visualization and strength training/stretching, along with the application of each sport. The philosophy allows each camper to choose the degree of difficulty they wish for themselves. The instructor, along with the camper, will initially determine a goal that the camper wants to achieve by the end of their session. The instructor will then gently encourage them to achieve this goal. We reinforce this by giving the camper the option of stepping back when self-doubt becomes too strong; knowing that another opportunity for a future attempt will always be available. The campers are able to try difficult tasks while recognizing that the attempt is far more significant than the performance results. All this takes place in an atmosphere of encouragement and support where we promote individual ideas and choices.

SAFETY IN WATERSPORTS
Safety is our number one priority. Each group of 10 participants will be supervised by the Director & 2 assistants. The Director is an ocean lifeguard & water safety instructor certified in CPR/first aid. All water safety gear, including an USCG life jacket, is required to be worn at all appropriate times. Respect of the water is mandatory and we will insist that the rules of conduct set out for the campers are followed without exception.

We hope this amazing opportunity will turn the children's summer memories into outstanding stories to share with their friends for many years to come.

GO TOTALLY EXTREEEME!!!

We know how much you loved the Water Sports option last year so we're doing it even better this summer with an ALL-DAY-IN-YOUR-FACE-TOTALLY-EXTREME experience!!!!

In addition to our very cool water sports program of: Kayaking, wakeboarding, surfing, boogieboarding, tubing and water skiing, we are adding skimboarding, kite surfing, mountain biking, skateboarding, rollerblading, X-games and extreeeme field trips. Can you stand it? Well, for those campers who just can't get enough ~ everyday all day will be filled with these sports (oh and a little lunch break in the back seat of a speeding Indy 500 car) Just kidding.....but seriously, this will be for 12 lucky kids a day who would like the total athletic experience and want to forego the regular camp activities.

This group "The Hawks" is for children 10-14 years old and will be available for any number of weeks from one to eight. Same full day hours as camp: 9:30 - 3:30 M-F. (See tuition chart for fees)

JEREMY'S BIOGRAPHY
Jeremy R. Grosvenor has had an unqueunchable thrist to be in, on or under the water since he was three. He was born on the island of Manhattan in 1970 and now lives in Bridgehampton with his two favorite people his son and wife (both are his favorite students.) He is an avid surfer, long distance swimmer, open ocean paddle boarder, outrigger canoer, kayaker, ocean lifeguard, free diver, sailor and windsurfer. In Hawaii they call it a waterman. He has been teaching surfing since 1995, windsurfing since 1985 and swimming since 1990. Water polo is also a game he likes to play. His studies in Ethnographic filmmaking (Harvard University) and maritime anthropology (University of Rhode Island.) have taken him to isolated coastal communities around the world - Papua New Guinea, Maldives, Micronesia and Indonesia. This is where he learned the most important rule concerning the water - RESPECT and SAFETY. He enjoys weaving aspects of the natural history of Long Island coastal environment, the culture of surfing and each individual's strengths into each lesson. He feels the best way to learn water sports are in a non-competitive manner that draws on your abilities. After teaching hundreds of students the art of surfing from the shores of Maui to the shores of Long Island, he has now joined The Art Farm as Director of the surfing and windsurfing camp for the summer of 2004.
See you in the water!

Aloha,

Jeremy
